Recently laid off, losing coverage August 1. In search of a plan with some sort of hospital/ER coverage and prescription coverage.
I really hope I’m wording everything correctly… four hours researching has done nothing for me.
I(20F) live in Kansas, United States. Essentially, I am still on my parents’ insurance (BCBS). I don’t live with them but they claim me as a dependent on taxes, etc. Due to a number of reasons, I want to have a tubal ligation procedure done. The internet says the ACA requires (some?) insurance companies to cover it as a preventative contraceptive. Can the insurance pick and choose what types or for what reason they cover or deny it like with other procedures/medications/etc? Do they have to have a reason at all?
My other question is: I know it’s an expensive procedure; other than a deductible or copay, will rates or anything else change as a result of filing that?
I would ask my parents these questions but they would do anything in their power to prevent me having it done so I don’t want to tell them if at all possible. (Tangent question, could they block something like that from being taken by the insurance company?)
I hope I wrote this in a clear enough manner so as to be understood. Thanks.
Edit: please don’t comment about my age in relation to having the procedure done. That’s its own can of worms for me figure out later.
