Receiving Medical Bill 16 months later

I gave birth to my daughter 16 months ago. I worked for a hospital system in Dallas, TX at the time and had United Healthcare PPO insurance through them so I had to use providers within that hospital network. I made sure my OB (and her entire group) was in network and gave birth at the hospital I worked at which was also in network.

I had some complications during birth that required an emergency c-section. I received some medical bills a couple months after giving birth which I paid and went on my way. I no longer work for that hospital and have since moved states. Last week I received a bill in the mail from US Anesthesia Partners for $2000 for the anesthesia from my c-section. I was pretty surprised considering the birth was 16 months ago (March 2023). After 4 hours on the phone with both USAP and United Healthcare it turns out the insurance didn’t cover it since the anesthesiologist for my emergency c-section was not a Tier 1 provider.

Am I really on the line for $2000 from an emergency surgery that was out of my control over 16 months ago?
