Quit my job 6 months ago. Just realized they never cancelled my insurance plan. What do I do?

Quit my job (location part of a larger corporate entity) 5 months ago. I worked there for ~7 months and had a health insurance plan tied to my employment there. Last week I received some mail from the health insurance company which lead me to investigate through the app and discover that my plan is still active.

I have a couple questions;

Obviously I haven’t been earning paychecks since quitting and so have not been paying what would be my half of the premium. Am I legally liable to pay this retroactively, even though I was unaware of the plan continuing?I assume I would be legally released from any agreement by severing my employment?

Can I make an appointment with this insurance without screwing myself over somehow? Until now I thought I had no health insurance for the last 5 months. Because of a weird situation at my current job, they don’t offer an employee plan, and I can’t currently afford private health insurance. I’m way overdue for a checkup and there are other things that I put off seeking treatment for when I decided to quit my previous job.

This is all very stressful to me and I feel somewhat guilty about it, like I’ve unintentionally committed a crime. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
