Hi everyone.

I want to preface this by saying I was not born and raised in the US so my knowledge is bellow zero here, I moved to the US a few years ago. I am also 24 so never had to deal with anything related to health insurance really, I come from a country where health insurance is free and never needed much medical attention.

Until, of course, I got pregnant.

I am covered by Amerihealth thru my husband’s job (we have a POS plan). As of this Friday I will be 20 weeks so, basically half way done. So far I hadn’t been asked to pay for a single copay at the monthly visits, the only amounts I’ve been billed were through Labcorp for blood work and they were 70$ max (after insurance).

Today I got an email from Labcorp saying I had a bill ready, and since I had had blood work done recently (two Fridays ago) at my latest OBGYN appointment, I thought that made sense. Came to find I was being billed for 1,200$ for the blood work I had at my very first Pre-Natal visit on March this year.

I thought it was just a really bad mistake, until I went to the insurance’s website and found in my claims that not only I owed 1,200$ for the blood work from March, I also owed (though I didn’t get an official bill yet) 500$ for the 12 weeks ultrasound (NT Scan, which is routine and standard), which I had called before hand with the codes to ask if it was covered, and I was told it was 100% covered.

Obviously this is a huge rant at this point, I am just so unsure what to do now and of course, it’s Sunday, I can’t call anyone. So what do I do? Is this real, do I really owe all of that?

(PSA: I am really limited when it comes to this whole thing (lol, clearly!) so if you have any advice, be sure to explain it to me like I am 5yo lol).

Thanks in advance 🙂
