Question About Student Plan Coverage
State is Massachusetts.
I have a student plan with MA Blue Cross Blue Shield. I needed to book a dermatology appointment — which I was worried might be difficult through my insurance — so I decided to call the office beforehand to confirm eligibility. I gave them my information, and they gave me the go-ahead to book an appointment. I forgot to mention that it was a student plan, but I didn’t think anything of it.
The telehealth appointment (which lasted all of 5 minutes) goes fine. I get a call about billing immediately after. Their representative asks me to upload my insurance ID to their medical portal, then tells me that my insurance may not be accepted because it’s a student plan. I asked if there was any way to appeal the charge — since I checked with them before — and they said no. I left a message with the billing department and haven’t heard back.
I’ve only recently gone off my parents’ plan and feel lost here. Would there really be no way to avoid paying $150 for this appointment? It seems ridiculous that I have to suffer after I tried to do my due diligence with them. Thanks.
