Question about reimbursement for Rx payments because I do not yet have insurance cards (+ a few more questions)
Hi,
I have COBRA coverage that changed as of the new year (new insurer). My new insurer has yet to send me my cards. I have to pick up 3 Rxes today that will cost me ~$1,500 out of pocket. I'm assuming that I will be reimbursed after I receive my cards.
Is that correct? Will the reimbursement be a nightmare?
One more question …
My coverage changed because my ex-employer changed health insurers as of the new year. My COBRA administrator had an open enrollment that ended on January 4, 2025 (3 days ago). However, the policy document says that my coverage started on January 1 (6 days ago!).
How is it possible to have an open enrollment that ends after the start of coverage?
Also, I'm pretty sure that the reason I don't have my new cards is because open-enrollment ended so late. My COBRA administrator probably submitted the documentation yesterday.
Additional info.
I'd prefer not to state my age (old). I'm in Connecticut.
edit 2:
In case anyone wants to suggest that I simply contact the insurer and ask for a virtual card … I called the new insurer and they said I don't have an account with them. This is likely due to my open-enrollment ending this past Saturday, which means they probably only received the paperwork yesterday (Monday)–if they've received it at all.
I called the COBRA administrator and they said they would contact the new insurer, but it would take up to 48 hours for a response… not 48 hours for the cards. 48 hours for them to respond. smh
