Question about Adding spouse to Health insurance
Hello guys,
I am having the employer sponsored health insurance. I was single and used to pay around 25 USD per 15 days. Got married on May 15th and within the end of 30th day i have updated the change in life event and added my wife. It was approved on June 15th. Now i am supposed to pay around 88 USD per 15 days or pay period.
But for this paycheck they have deducted around 235 USD and when i have spoken to the customer service they told me that they have deducted the 235 USD instead of 88 USD because they have retroactively deducted for the month of May too. That is when i got married.
How can they deduct for the month of May when it was approved in June 15th. Is this the common practice ? By the way my wife is coming to US from India in the month of September. I am cool to pay the money for Insurance starting from July i.e after it got approved, but why would i pay for past month.
Guide me what action i need to take. Thank you.
