Qualifying life event – Coverage ending – Can’t access marketplace?

I'm sure this is a very basic question but I can't navigate the process and have gotten stressed trying to. I'm trying to access the marketplace. I have never done this before, but now I have an account and a completed application. At no point does the health care . gov application ask me about any qualifying events. It asks if I have health insurance for 2023, and says to answer "no" if I won't have it after a date in July, 60 days out I believe. I answer "no" because I lose my coverage this month. It then asks if I'm eligible for insurance under my state's state employee program, I answer no, and next thing I know I'm on the review and submit page. No questions at all pertaining to qualifying me for a special enrollment period.

Once submitted, the only eligibility results are that I don't qualify for CHIP (correct) and might for Medicaid. (I don't, but income varies HEAVILY throughout the year for us and technically was next to nothing this month – which I recorded correctly and seems to be confusing the system even though I also correctly recorded an estimated annual income well in excess of the Medicaid limits. Maybe I shouldn't have done that? And should have just put in an average monthly amount for May?) My eligibility pdf contains information basically redirecting me to update the same exact application form if I've had a qualifying life event… except there's nothing for me to change on the application unless I've done something incorrectly.

Is the form not asking about qualifying life events because it wants to verify I'm not eligible for Medicaid first? Or am I doing something else wrong?
