Qualifying for Medicaid post-delivery, previous insurance refusing to cover delivery?

Hi all – first post here. Generally at my wits end fighting insurance and marketplace to get this sorted out and need advice.

My girlfriend (now wife) gave birth to our daughter 3 years ago in July. We live in Florida and she had purchased health insurance with Florida blue through the marketplace. She was current on her monthly payments for said insurance. According to marketplace, once she delivered our daughter, she immediately qualified for Medicaid, and Florida blue has refused to cover the hospital bills. They have told us to contact marketplace for a retroactive coverage with Medicaid to cover this expense.

Florida blue is claiming my wife cancelled her health insurance while she was in the hospital in active labor. She had already paid her monthly bill, which they sent us a check for. We never cashed the check and have been trying to fight this battle.

We reached out to our states attorney general. They referred us to the Florida department of revenue and it felt like we were finally getting somewhere. Department of revenue told us to contact marketplace, which brings us to this current moment. Every step of this process has been mentally exhausting. We cannot afford a hospital bill for that amount.

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: my wife had just turned 27 before giving birth, her income was roughly $60k.
