I just had a baby May 15th and opened up a QLE with my insurance to add her to the plan. When comparing my insurance (Aetna ~$850/month for me +1 ) to my husband’s (Kaiser) we realized it is so much cheaper under his plan to either add her and potentially myself as well. If we add us to his plan, will the birth be out of network since I didn’t have a Kaiser doctor or would any visits for the first 30 days for myself and baby be covered under my old plan? I can’t seem to understand if the birth is her charge or mine and if it retroactively goes back to birth. If he adds her, his insurance says it starts for her back on May 15th and we’ve seen pediatricians etc since then that they likely wouldn’t cover bc again, not Kaiser.

Option 2: he also has the ability to change to Cigna which is still much cheaper than mine. I think it makes sense to put the baby on his with Cigna. but what about myself-would the birth stay with Aetna if I switch too? It looks like the new insurance for my open enrollment would start Jun 1.

This all just confused me again typing it so sorry in advance!

We’re in Colorado if that makes a difference.
