Provider was listed as in-network until I recieved my EOB

Hey all,

(This is specifically for the USA if that matters) I've never posted before so please be nice. 🙂 I booked a doctor's appointment last month through an app that said the doctor was an in-network provider with my insurance. I got a confirmation call with the office where they again told me that they took my insurance. (I get there is a difference between taking my insurance and being an in-network provider). After the visit, I asked if I owed them anything and I was told "no, your insurance is covering everything." I was never once told they were not in-network. In fact, they were listed as in-network on my insurance's in-network providers list.

Fast forward to tonight, I looked at my EOB and it said that they were out-of-network. That was super surprising, so I went and checked my insurance's provider list. The doctor disappeared. The number on the EOB is freaking me out. I would really appreciate some advice on how to move forward and, at a minimum, lower my bill.
