Provider “may be out-of-network”

Hi! I have an appointment with a provider on Oct. 28th, it’s a consultation for top surgery and I am already expecting to jump through numerous hoops to get my surgery covered. I recently received an email from my insurance (United Healthcare PPO) that said my provider “recently contacted us to check your insurance status. We wanted to give you a heads up that this provider may not be in your network.”

However, whenever I look on UHCs website of in-network providers it says my surgeon is in-network. Also, I worked with a trans social worker when trying to figure surgery out and she specifically said this surgeon takes my insurance so I’m a bit confused.

I’m not really in the place to pay medical bills out of pocket so I’m starting to get a bit worried that my consultation may not be covered and I’ll be paying out of pocket for the office visit. I did notice that the email listed the surgeon as “Gil Kryger Md” and UHCs website has my surgeon as “Giliel S Kryger, MD” so I’m hoping that somehow maybe the name makes a difference? I could contact my insurance but I’ve had horrible experiences with their customer service representatives. My appointment is coming up and I’ve already waited a month for this consult but I’m wondering if I should just cancel at this point until I get this figured out.
