Problems with Regence BCBS in Virginia

So I have “Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon” because my company is based out of Washington. I imagine that some of my difficulties might be related to their territory being literally on the other side of the country but I have no clue.

I had Aetna for as long as I can remember and recently switched and am finding it very difficult to find providers nearby. When I search the doctors I see they don’t even come up in the search. I search their offices, nothing. I will do a general search for in-network providers of a specialty and the closest one will be 20+ minutes away when I am fully aware that there are at least a dozen within 10 minutes. Urgent care is worse, and it will list an urgent care in a chain 10 miles away when there is another one 2 miles away.

Every provider whose website I check will accept Anthem and CareFirst, which are the local BCBS companies. So does this mean they will accept Regence?

I called earlier and even the agent had such a hard time verifying anything that he said he’d have to dig deeper and call me back, but that was hours ago and I’m not sure if he’ll get back to me Monday at this point.
