Prior auth problems rant

I have a procedure coming up and working in the medical field myself I understand the importance of going through the proper channels of getting procedures approved beforehand and obtaining an auth number as needed. I scheduled this procedure a month ago and now it is next week. I verified with my insurance using the cpt code in my chart that a prior auth is needed. I called the office last week to get an update on my prior auth since I saw on my UHC portal a request had not been submitted. They tell me they’ll get to it. Come yesterday- still nothing so I call again. Twice with no answers except someone will call you back. They call me today right before they close to give me an authorization number and reference number and im like thats great. Call to verify the info with UHC and they not only tell me nothing has been submitted but the numbers they gave me sound nothing like what theirs typically do. Im so frustrated but now I’ll have to take off work tomorrow to try and fight this in person.
