Pretty much forced to take a crappy health insurance plan I don’t even want
I’m so confused and so frustrated. I got a job at temp agency. A temp agency. As in temporary employment. When I started the job I already had health insurance through the marketplace with a $0 deductible. I had access to medications I needed. I could see the doctor if I needed…which I do need as I have medical concerns and mental health issues that require Monthly prescriptions. So then I got notice that I was eligible for employer sponsored health insurance thru temp agency. Nah…that’s ok I’m good I have insurance already.
Wait, what? If I don’t take your insurance and keep mine instead I may lose the subsidy? So, what you’re saying is I have no choice? I have to sign up with your insurance?
So, I did. I signed up for their insurance. They gave me like a week to do it. It took forever just to locate the document that described plan details and options. I still can’t make sense of it. My plan is managed by like 5 or 6 different companies I have to go this one for this and that one for that. I’m not stupid. I’m employable and got good grades but for the life of me I don’t understand what the hell I was basically forced to sign up for.
All I know is that the deductible is like $5,000. I think. Again I know how to read but I swear they draft these insurance documents with the intent to confuse.
Why did they make me sign up with their insurance? Why. Couldn’t I have the freedom to keep my marketplace insurance which admittedly wasn’t the best…but at least it helped.
This is a temp job. I don’t make a lot of money and cost of living keeps going up so there is no option for me to save or to put money into the HSA that my plan provides me with that I have to figure out how to set up myself with an outside bank. Like what? I mean what? You’re not offering me an hsa like it’s some plus to my insurance. They aren’t offering me anything. But to go find one and sign up myself. Ok great so that doesn’t benefit me cuz I can’t afford to put money into it.
And then I just learned that until I pay FULL deductible I can’t even get insurance to help with prescription costs. I appreciate that it will “save” me in the event of catastrophic illness or accident but it’s not really doing any thing g to help my actual medical needs. Because now I can’t afford to get monthly medications I had previously been taking regularly. So my health insurance is now having a negative impact on my health and making me worse off.
We can tell me rationalizations all day long if the potential benefits of a high deductible plan but I’ve learned to be cautious about entering into relationships based on future potential.
I just know that now I can’t get the care I need and that doesn’t seem right or fair .
They know they aren’t paying most their temp workers enough to pay these deductibles so why do they do it? I guess my biggest question is why did they have to cock block me from my existing insurance plan? I was ok it wasn’t great by any means but it was way better than my current situation. I am insured but without coverage basically. That’s how I feel. There is.no bright side to me no longer having access to mental health care and meds and treatment for chronic issues …. It’s not making me feel better to know that hey at least my high deductible insurance is there for when real tragedy strikes. Man man this sucks.
