I'm helping my brother retain health insurance, whom is special needs (epilepsy, Intellectual Disability, autism), and does not qualify for Medicaid (due to assets). He worked for 22 years and was fired last year after my mom died. She was able to communicate with him and drive him to/from work and worked with the managers to keep him employed. Filed disability, but still waiting for outcome. His IQ is 63, cannot drive, reads about 2nd grade level, math is more like kindergarten. He lives in Texas. After he lost his job we were able to get health Insurance on Healthcare.gov and he qualified for Premium Tax Credit last year (he had worked about 7 months). We thought we would be approved faster for disability (SSDI) but still waiting so I initially put in an income based on his potential SSDI. We are still waiting so his income is actually going to be around $6000 for the year unless we hear from SSDI. I updated the forms online and now he gets zero for Premium Tax credits and has to pay approx $475/mo for health insurance. I want to make sure I did this right? Are there any other options when re-enrollment comes up? We need insurance. He spent 2-3 weeks in ICU already this year. Thank you!
