I have UnitedHealth care HMO market place. I’m currently 37 weeks pregnant. Every time I went to the hospital I was told Off and on that my insurance was accepted or not. My OB is in network though. However when I called for labor and delivery costs when I was 3 months pregnant they told me my estimated cost for labor and delivery would be the remainder of my out of pocket which was $900 at the time. Also, my OB’s office made me put down a deposit for a vaginal birth months before my due date. My OB and I decided to plan for a c section because I had extensive pelvic and bowel surgery in 2018, and she is worried that having a vaginal birth would cause some severe damage. So we planned a week before my due date because she didn’t want me going into labor. Fast forward I’m planned to have surgery in 2 weeks. And the hospital tells me they no longer accept my insurance. I have to pay $6,000 before my surgery or they will cancel it and to find another provider. So here I am trying to find a provider but no one is accepting me this far along because I am considered a liability. I call my OB office asking for any sense of direction and they just tell me to walk into a hospital that accepts my insurance when I’m in labor. They’ll give me my records so they don’t have to evaluate me for a c section, and do an emergency one. Granted I’m terrified and upset because the only plan was for me not to go into labor. When I talked to the hospital they told me I don’t even qualify for financial assistance, and I’m expected to pay 12-20k for my stay, but they need $6,000 upfront.
