Hello to all, I’ve been on such an emotion rollercoaster today! I am a 23 year old woman in RI. I have Neighborhood Health insurance and yesterday, without my knowledge, my policy was cancelled. I work a slightly above minimum wage job so paying my premium can be difficult at times, especially these last few months. I’ve put it on the back burner. The last time I made a payment was in April for the full premium. Neighborhood has not sent me notices via email or to my personal home address what so ever but instead to my mothers address in her name. When I asked my mom about whose cancellation letter this was, she shrugged. I’ve never had an insurance policy of my own and misunderstood a banner placed on Health Source RI’s website stating policies will remain active throughout the Covid-19 concern. I thought this would sort of allow me wiggle room. I have been having health issues and went to pay $400 of the $529 I owed for my plan yesterday. The representative I spoke to advised I should pay at least 2 months worth of premium to avoid cancellation when in fact it was cancelled that day. I got on the sit today to review my balance and they cancelled my plan all together. I call HSRI immediately and they explained they will need to submit a ticked that can take up to 1 month to review.

My question is will they have to reinstate my coverage seeing I was not getting the notices and the rep advised me to pay said amount? Before anyone judges for me not paying, it’s just not within my means to pay $200 a month INCASE I get sick along with a high deductible and out of pocket…. Health Insurance should be a right not a stressor or financial worry and burden.

Does the insurance keep my premium even though they cancelled me the day before. I have used my insurance ONCE to pick up my inhaler
