Pathology of mole cost over $3k, is that reasonable?
I went to the dermatologist for the first time about a month ago. The dermatologist removed a mole that he said looked concerning and then sent to the University of Michigan Medicine for pathology. They found that it was pre-cancerous.
I then got the bill in the mail. It cost $315 to get the mole removed (I paid $244.19). That seems relatively reasonable. The University of Michigan Medical charged $3,333 for analyzing the mole though. It came in 2 charges (claims). One for facilities "University Of Michigan Health System" ($2,170) and another for the actual testing "Umhs Pathology" ($1,163). This seems like an outrageous cost for pathology on a single mole. Am I right or is this normal?
Also, just a sidenote, University of Michigan Medical posts that they offer "connected care" plans but apparently don't say that they are part of connected care to the insurance company, so I'm apparently on the hook for $2,51 0 for those charges.
