Out of pocket insurance plan – adding coverage intermittently ?

Hey! Recently switched my family of 4 over to my company’s medical coverage since my husband’s job changed. At the same time I was/am finishing up cancer treatment at Kaiser so I am paying for additional insurance (for myself) to stay with that network and with the same providers, in the short term. So essentially “double dipping”? At this point I’m mainly done with treatment but I will need to have a follow up surgery in February and I wanted to use the same plastic surgeon. Which leads me to my question:

Can I “turn off” Kaiser for the next 4 months, and then turn it back on for the surgery? I don’t have another QLE but since it’s fully out of pocket and not part of any plan I’m not sure how that works. I’m thinking that insurers are smarter than that otherwise everyone would just sign up when they need something done. I would still have coverage through my other plan so I would remain insured throughout. Thoughts?
