Open enrollment for my employer health insurance is in January and I’m looking into other options due to the insane cost of insuring my family. Myself (M28), spouse (F26), and child (M4Months). Are currently covered under family coverage of my employer for 559.32 per pay period (14,542$ per year). I can cover myself only for 37.99 per pay period (987.74 per year) which I think is reasonable.

I’m looking for other options for cover my wife and Child. Wife is very health, no prescription meds, no known health problems. Child appears to be perfectly healthy yet is still young (4 Months).

Wife is a contract employee and is not offered benefits through her employer.

Would a market place plan be more reasonable for them and are they generally good coverage?

With no known health conditions should I consider supplemental insurance only for them? Covering accidents, major medical, cancer ect?

We have the ability to comfortably pay out of pocket normal medical expenses, even a ER trip (within reason) if needed, with our savings.

I have no experience with supplemental or market place plans. I welcome any advice or experiences as it seems no one local has any to give other than “you have to have health insurance”.
