Open Enrollment – Possible Pregnancy this year

Hi all! My (F30) company is very generous and pays the full premium for any of the following Aetna plans. My husband (M34) is also on the plan, also at no cost to us. We are talking about starting to try for a child in late 2024.

Option 1: $12,500 family deductible Coinsurance 30% $40 copay $80 specialist copay Employer HSA contribution $180/mo

Option 2: $6,000 family deductible Coinsurance 20% Deductible then $35 copay Deductible then $80 specialist copay Employer HSA contribution $125/mo

Option 3: $2,000 family deductible Coinsurance 0% $25 copay $75 specialist copay Employee optional HSA contribution

Right now we have Option 2 and I contribute extra to the HSA, as we are generally healthy and I have been casually saving for lasik.

With open enrollment upon us, do you think it’s worth changing to a different option now if there’s no guarantee we’ll get pregnant in the next plan year? Or keep the current plan and just put as much as we can in the HSA for future birth stuff? If we do get pregnant, would there be any problem changing options next open enrollment cycle while pregnant? My expectation is that any pregnancy will meet any deductible… and Option 3 would be best for the high volume of appointments in pregnancy? Thanks for your thoughts!
