Not sure if to switch dental insurance

Question about type of dental insurance to choose.

We are currently in the open enrollment phase at work to choose or switch insurance. I’m looking to possibly switch my dental insurance from Aetna DMO to MetLife PPO. The PPO option will be double per paycheck of what is costing me right now but the reason why I am considering this is because I need a few things done for me and my children. I want to put braces on my kids and I was looking at the plan comparisons. For the PPO option it says… orthonia benefits: 50% covered, service limits and maximums- orthodonia: $2000 lifetime maximum

Now for the DMO option it says… Orthodonia benefits: 50% covered, service limits and maximums-orthodonia: comprehensive treatment consists of 24 months active treatment plus 24 months retention per lifetime.

That last part of the DMO option is what I don’t get. I’ve done some research and have a good idea of what the PPO maximum means but no clue on the DMO maximum description. If someone could please explain better and give their opinion if it’s worth changing from a DMO to PPO.

Another reason is because I need a root canal done and I’ve been quoted and out of pocket price of $950. I saw that on PPO 80% is covered and DMO is 50%.

I would appreciate any feedback and recommendations.
