Not Medi-Cal eligible, but can’t get removed from the state system

At the beginning of the year I was enrolled in Medi-Cal because I made a mistake and thought I was eligible. In April I received a letter that I wasn't eligible and my policy cancelled retroactively back to Jan 1.

A few weeks ago I attempted to enroll in healthcare coverage through CoveredCA. I was unable to submit my application because I am still in the state system for Medi-Cal. CoveredCA had me call the County and the County supposedly has made multiple efforts to update the system. I have called at least three times and every time something has happened that has resulted in me not being removed from the state system. I decided to give up and get insurance directly through Kaiser.

When I called to check on my Kaiser application the rep told me I have Medi-Cal too. She couldn't remove me. She gave me some number to call so that I could request to be removed from the state system.

My Medi-Cal has supposedly been cancelled, but if I go to the dr. I may not have to pay because I am still showing up as having Medi-Cal. I'm nervous that some entity will come after me for Medi-Cal fraud or something.

Can someone tell me what will happen if still have Medi-Cal and then go to the Doctor and it's applied? How worried should I be?
