No longer have access to therapy because I signed up for a 2nd insurance – please help

Hi all,

I have been a dependent on my mom's Anthem insurance for a while and utilized it for therapy. Recently, I qualified for my own insurance at work (Blue Shield of California) so I asked my therapist if they accept it and they said they do not. So I signed up for Blue Shield of California anyway, but also remained a dependent on my mom's insurance as well for the purpose of continuing this therapy.

Then my therapist office told me that they are unable to bill Anthem anymore because it is my secondary insurance now instead of my primary, which they do not accept.

I don't understand how that works, why are they not able to just bill the secondary insurance that they do accept? Why did signing up for a different primary change it and is there any way that I can cancel it or bypass this situation? I have had no luck finding another therapist and I desperately want to return to my regular sessions.

Thank you in advance.
