Newly Married – Spouse’s insurance is much better, but I’m worried about an upcoming RX renewal.

First time poster here, so please forgive me. Couldn't find much about best steps on the internet.

Long story short, my wife's company provided insurance has better benefits than my current, at a $450 a month savings (I work at a very small firm that can only afford about 40% of the monthly premiums). Seems like a no brainer, but I have this one issue:

I'm currently on a quarterly biologic that my current insurance covers. It's due to renew in a week. I have 3 weeks to decide if I should move to my wife's plan. I am not worried if this prescription would be covered, just worried if it would be approved in time for the next injection (early July). Would I be liable for any costs if I wait until my current insurance covers the next refill, and then move to the new one? I don't want to break any laws, or be stuck with a large fee. The monthly savings are meaningful, but wouldn't add up to the RX cost out of pocket for the remainder of the year.
