Boonville, Missouri – The rules have changed. Now, more Missourians can get low-cost or free health insurance through Missouri’s Medicaid program, MO HealthNet. This includes many Cooper County residents. Many adults who have not qualified before, including those without children, are now eligible. For example, a single adult making up to $1,482 a month or a family of four making up to $3,048 a month can now get covered. Medicaid coverage includes doctor visits, mental health care, dental services, prescription medication, and more.
Missouri Medicaid enrollment is open all year. And there is free local help available to help you apply. Executive Director Cale Mitchell from Spectrum Health Care encourages all Missourians to see if they’re eligible, even if they have applied for Medicaid in the past. “We know health insurance can be tricky, but we are here to assist you with every step. More than 60,000 Missourians have already gained access to health insurance since October 1, 2021, with the new rules. This includes over 2,800 in Cooper County. This number is expected to rise as more applications are processed. “It is taking longer than planned to review and process the high number of applications from across the state, but it’s still important to get your application in as early as possible. If approved, your coverage will start from the date you applied,” advises Sheldon Weisgrau, Vice President of Health Policy at Missouri Foundation for Health.
Health insurance through MO HealthNet gives residents access to important health care to get and stay healthy. Anyone who thinks they might be eligible can apply.
