So long story short, I was supposed to begin my COBRA insurance on May 1st. I was staying on my parents’ plan for personal reasons and was informed all the cards information would stay the same, and I would not need a new card, all the prescription coverage would remain the same, and would not lose any sort of coverage come May 1st.

I paid for the May 1st insurance back in April and confirmed the payment. Well it’s now May 2nd and I just received a notification from my pharmacy that my prescription (that has been $0 for years) is $2,500 for this month! I called the pharmacy and questioned it, they said the rejection they are getting is that my insurance is inactive so they can’t process it through them, so I have to pay the cash price.

I call the insurance, they confirm the insurance is active and that all the numbers and such remain the same. They tell me to have the pharmacy reprocess the claim. Rejected again. Insurance company told me it’s a pharmacy issue, pharmacy says it’s an insurance issue. I told both I’m done playing phone tag and ask they just call one another. Neither will.

So I’m at a standstill here. Luckily it’s not a medication I desperately need right now, so I can go a week or two while this gets fixed. But what am I doing wrong here? I’m currently paying for an inactive insurance and no one knows why. But I have important testing in the upcoming weeks so I need this fixed soon. Any advice?
