Need Help – Insurance Suddenly Charging 3x from Old Sessions – How to Navigate Appeal

Started therapy 7/12/23 and have been paying out of pocket 50.00 for each session. Was quoted this amount by providing my insurance (United Healthcare Oxford, given to me through work) to the therapy group Alma (kind of an online database of therapists). Ten sessions have elapsed leading up until 10/2/23.

For the session on 10/2, 24 hours before the session was emailed by Alma saying my payment responsibility has changed to 136. Okay – I figure I can eat the cost and see what’s going on with my insurance. Get sent back and forth between my insurance and Alma and a week later am informed that I owe 100% of the costs until my deductible is met (2,800.00).

Okay – first time having insurance maybe I made a mistake thinking they would cover (even though they say it is covered). But to not notify me for months about the payment responsibility? All of a sudden I owe 1K.

In the email from Alma they say I need to figure it out with my insurance and that claims can take up to 45 days to process and sorry for the delay. Well it’s been well over 45 days.

Trying to figure out the next few steps to take. Seems out of the ordinary to me… is there anyone that’s had a similar experience that can point me in the right direction? I can’t really afford any of this (also have multiple other medical bills to pay that are starting to pop up). Thanks.
