Need help deciding plan for open enrollment

Started a new job last year, and when I picked my insurance I cheaper out because the 5 years before that I went to the Dr. 1 time. So for my first year I picked a HDHP PPO. Only paying $15 a month but when I did see the Dr. I was paying crazy amounts out of pocket. To make matters even worse I had to deal with 2 serious health issues. 1 of the health issues that I had to get surgery on is all under control now, the other I had to put on hold because the cost to visit the Dr. Was ridiculous.

I really want to get health and plan on seeing the Dr. more frequently this coming year but I really want to pick the right insurance so that I’m not getting killed with medical bills again. For example 1 visit I had to the urologist cost $300 out of pocket…

I’ve been doing research and I think I’ve eliminated the HMO options. Leaving the 2 options the standard PPO plan or the HDHP PPO plan which is the one I have right now. I’m thinking the standard PPO plan will be the better option. Can any one confirm this will be a better plan for me.

TL;DR: Currently have a HDHP PPO plan , had a lot of medical issues this year and will probably need to see dr. Just as much this up coming year. Is the standard PPO plan worth switching too?
