Need Help! Can a doctor do this?! Took $510 a card on file while in dispute with insurance!

Help!

TL;DR – Doctor forced a debit on my card on file while we’re appealing for insurance to pay for services they told me was covered by my health insurance.

Prior to booking my son an evaluation at a local speech therapist, we called their office and they confirmed that they accepted our insurance and even said it’ll cover the initial session + a handful of others. So we took my son to a Speech therapist for an evaluation. It was unhelpful so we never went back.

A few weeks go by and the office calls and tells us that our insurance denied the claim (blue cross blue shield, BCBS for short). I get the office on a conference call with BCBS and after 30 minutes of digging BCBS claims the code was submitted wrong and said “if you change _____ then its all fixed up and we’ll accept the claim.”

Ok, great, we all agree thats what we’ll do.

A few weeks LATER we get an email stating that the claim is STILL denied and that their going to put us in collections and that we need to come up with the $510 right away.

I start to email the provider and they keep adding snarky snippets like “we understand you don’t want to pay because the visit didn’t go well” and I have been adamant and repeatedly said I’m trying to get them paid through insurance and if they cooperated with me and BCBS, it might go faster and get them paid.

Ten minutes later they charged my “on file” debit card the balance of $510.00.

What is my recourse? How can I fix this? I’ve already submitted another claim to BCBS support online that this is happening and I don’t seem to have anyone fighting for me!
