Mystery Claim submitted to Insurance for Procedure

Hello r/healthinsurance!

This is pertaining to claim billed to my insurance through my employer and I’m having a dilemma with a related bill for an endoscopy I had in February. I hope this is the right place to post this also. Anyway, as of today, I have received and paid a bill for every associated charge with the procedure (I had not met my deductible at that time) EXCEPT for the anesthesia fee. I called the outpatient facility to confirm the practice or group that handled my anesthesia and every time they say it’s a certain Anesthesia group, let’s call them “A Group”. I’ve been calling A Group for months to confirm if they have my information on file for my bill, they still don’t have my info.

I was looking out for the claim to my insurance under “A Group” but recently noticed a claim had already been submitted for anesthesia fee for my endoscopy back in February and the EOB says I owe $235, great. The twist is the Facility that submitted the claim is NOT “A Group”. I have called my insurance company multiple times about this issue and have talked to several agents who have tried to investigate about this claim and have no clue who submitted it.

Since I owe someone $235 and have no clue who they are, I am worried about the practice or group that billed insurance for my anesthesiology fee eventually sending it to collections. Meanwhile I’ve been spending months trying to figure out who the hell they even are and have not received a bill.

The agent from my health insurance company I have been working with in depth has been calling different offices and facilities for the past week and called me a few days ago to basically she still can’t figure out WTF is going on. She said I should call them if I ever receive a bill. I don’t know where the fuck up happened or what could have happened. I let her know my worries about being screwed over in the future by this mystery bill and whether I would be protected if it gets sent to collections, she understood but couldn’t guarantee me anything. I’ve never dealt with anything like this before financially.

I’m looking for advice and recommendations for what I can do to protect myself from this mystery bill coming to bite me in the future (like collections) through no fault of my own…or what I can do to figure out who I’m supposed to be paying this to. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!
