My Stepmother and Father Put Me On Their Insurance Without My Knowledge (PA)

I’m an 18 year old female in Pennsylvania. Since I was born, I’ve had Medicaid under my mother’s household.

I’ve been in therapy for five years. I always assumed Medicaid paid for it. But my mom got a call talking about how they can’t bill me. She asked why, they say ‘oh, well Blue Cross Blue Shield isn’t going through.’

What?

She tells them I have Medicaid. Apparently they can’t bill that. I call my stepmother and ask her what’s going on. No answers, just refusal to take me off her insurance. I didn’t even know I was on it. What the fuck? So I ask her what her insurance is called. She says it’s called UMR. Not Blue Cross. WHAT? Who has blue cross? She wouldn’t tell me.

I don’t live with my stepmother or my father anymore. I am on the lease at my mom’s house, my financial info is under her address. I don’t legally live under my stepmom’s roof. I USED to go back and forth from their houses with no legal custody arrangements. But I’ve always been on the lease at my mom’s house.

My dad is on Medicaid too. He had a massive stroke in August and is non verbal, so I can’t get any answers from him. This is so, so incredibly frustrating.

I call my therapist. She apparently takes Medicaid, but not Blue Cross. But they don’t have my Medicaid on file. And they can’t bill Blue Cross. So who has been paying for my therapy and my medication? What the hell? I am SO SO SO confused. What the fuck is so hard? Why can’t they just take my Medicaid and disregard the Blue Cross thing? I’m guessing it’s an old insurance of theirs. Whatever. I DONT LIVE THERE ANYMORE. And that insurance is old and expired because my stepmom has UMR through her employer! And my therapists office has no idea what UMR is! So I can’t call her employer!

What’s even more frustrating is that they both KNEW I had Medicaid. They KNEW. And they still put me under their insurance. And now my dad’s unable to clarify any of this nonsense!

My stepmom has now agreed to take me off her UMR, but holy shit, how do I get rid of Blue Cross?????

What the fuck do I do???

Update: I guess they do have UMR on file? How do I just get them to bill my Medicaid?
