My sister’s insurance company (UHC) took her money for months then backdated a cancellation of her policy…she has cancer and is going through chemo

She met her deductible in March, which is when they’re backdating the cancellation to. She’s made multiple payments to them and they’ve gladly taken her money…but now the oncology office called to tell her her insurance is cancelled and they would be cancelling treatment appointments until the insurance is resolved. We’ve been on the phone between marketplace and UHC trying to get the insurance reinstated or even another plan but she’s been denied for both. They are claiming her policy cancellation is due to non payment. We have receipts proving payment and they see that they took her payment. Now it’s because she missed a grace period she didn’t know about to get the policy current (it is tho???) because she missed one payment by a week months ago. Even if the policy cancellation is valid, why can’t they get her some type of coverage if we pay for it??

How tf is this legal? Do we have grounds to sue?
