My first surgery and I’m totally confused.

Okay, first of all I know next to nothing about how insurance works. And I did actually have one previous surgery when I was a kid but my dad was a military officer and everything was free.

Now I have surgery scheduled but the clinic won't tell me what it costs. They put me in touch with their business office but they said they won't know until the procedure is complete. They recommended calling my insurer (Humana) for advice.

Humana says they can't provide an estimate of coverage until they receive the bill from the clinic. At this point I should mention that every contact so far has taken days to complete. They all want to play endless phone tag, they refuse to speak with one another, and no one will use email or text because it's actually 1935 not 2024.

I'm exhausted just typing this. What am I missing? RN I'm putting off the surgery because I have no idea what I'm getting into financially. Is this normal? TIA for any perspectives.
