My ex-husband is showing our inactive health insurance card at multiple ER visits. Why?

Hi, okay let me explain – In 2022, I was primary on my BCBS health insurance I got through my employer, and my (at the time) husband was secondary on my health insurance. I resigned from that job in late 2022 and therefore our BCBS plan became inactive and of no use. We divorced 2023. He still has the physical card which shows mine and his name.

I was so confused when I saw an email from BCBS with a new claims summary recently. I checked it out, and he has been showing them our old inactive insurance card at multiple ER visits since late September of 2024. The past three months he has gone six times and shown the card each time.. $6,000+ dollars worth of ER visits. Obviously the insurance is not covering any of the charges.

My question is, what would be the benefit of someone showing an inactive health insurance card?

It's not by accident and I know he has no intent to pay later. Also, I was assured by BCBS agents that I am not responsible for these bills even though I was primary.

And don't feel bad, he is not ill. He literally was constantly wanting to go to the ER for non-emergencies ALL the time. It was ridiculous.

I plan on reaching out to him and telling him to stop because I don't want my name associated with whatever insurance fraud it could be but wanted to get anyone's input here first on the situation?

Thanks in advance!
