My employer denied my request to drop coverage (my wifes employer is far better) do I have any options

My wife started a job Dec 2023 and was told at 90 days she would be eligible for benefits. So mid March when she went to apply for insurance the benefits dept told her she had been misinformed and she was eligible at 60 days (Feb). It took almost a month for them to do all the paperwork and have her added to the plan(kids and I are even still waiting for our insurance cards) so I waited for that process to finalize before approaching my employer about dropping my insurance.

My wifes employer back dated her coverage to Feb 1st (even though we didnt apply for benefits till mid March) so when I went to my employer in the later part of April, they told me I was past the 60 days for a life event and denied me dropping coverage. Now I am stuck paying $500 a month for insurance that I cant/wont use (wifes insurance does not allow a secondary coverage plan).

They are stating that due to ERISA they cannot let me drop it even though I explained we applied for the benefits barely a month before requesting to drop my coverage.

Do I have an recourse?
