My daughter’s health insurance
We live in New York. Next June my 66 year old wife is retiring and I am already retired (67). We will be going on Medicare insurance. My 21 year old daughter lives with us and will be going to graduate school next year. Since she will no longer have insurance under my wife's current employment health insurance I have a couple of questions. Since my daughter will have little to no income would it be better for us to longer claim her as a dependent on our taxes so she can get the tax breaks under the Affordable Care Act when she applies for Market Place insurance? Would only her income (almost zero) be considered if we no longer claim her as a dependent even though she still lives with us? We want her to have very good comprehensive insurance Can she get all the tax breaks for Market Place insurance for low income individuals? We can give her the money for the Market Place insurance but with us being on Medicare and my wife no longer having her high income salary we are limited in income also. Any guidance in how best to approach this issue would be most appreciated. We really don't know what to do. Thank you! Bruce
