My BlueCross BlueShield health insurance plan bought through the marketplace was erroneously terminated. What do I do next?
Hi! I am a self-employed worker in Maryland who purchased a Carefirst BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS) medical plan through the Maryland Health Connection. I have used the Health Connection for the past several years and have not changed my medical coverage during that time. The only change I ever made was cancelling a previous Carefirst BCBS Dental plan, which is separate from my medical insurance. When I log-on to the Maryland Health Connection portal, it shows that I am actively enrolled in a Carefirst BCBS medical plan for 2025, as well as a Delta Dental Plan I enrolled in that replaced my previous dental plan.
On 2/7, I received a termination letter from BlueCross BlueShield stating my medical plan had been terminated and that all claims dated from 1/1/2025 onward would not be covered. This is despite me paying my BCBS premium in January. Moreover, it shows me as still enrolled in the Carefirst BCBS dental plan, despite the fact I cancelled this plan during the recent open enrollment period.
My best guess is that they unenrolled me in my medical plan instead of my dental plan.
I am absolutely a nervous wreck about this because I have surgery coming up in a month or two. Do you all have any advice on the first steps I should take to remedy this? Would it be by calling the Health Connection or the insurance itself? Is there hope that this can be fixed š
Thank you!
