MultiPlan PHCS Extended PPO–any members here?

I was formerly with AmeriHealth NJ and even though I had an HSA (which I never actually used), the plan was awful–covered nothing, high premium and high deductible. I decided at the last minute enough was enough and I wanted to sign up with BlueCross. I thought I had until the end of January, but it turned out in NJ I only had until the end of December to sign up.

I found this out when I called BlueCross to try and sign up. The person on the line informed me that even though I called a BlueCross number, she wasn’t with the company, but just a rep that could help me find a new plan. Which is strange, but ok.

After asking me a bunch of health related questions, she said I was eligible for MultiPlan. I was told I would have a 0$ deductible, mental/behavioral health would be covered (my main reason to find a new plan), I could be on their PPO plan so I can see docs out of network and the premium was lower than AmeriHealth. It sounded to good to be true so I asked what’s up with this? She said something along the lines of how after the pandemic, the Biden administration wanted companies to offer affordable plans for healthy individuals who don’t smoke, without chronic conditions etc. New to me, so I believed her and went ahead and signed up.

I got online and looked up reviews and my stomach kinda sank when I saw so many bad reviews, calling this a scam. I kept my fingers crossed and eventually did get my cards and access to their online portal. It looks like any other health insurance website. The problem is, whenever I call an office to make an appointment and they contact MultiPlan to check coverage, they tell the office/facility I’m not covered for behavioral health. I then call the insurance company and they tell me, no, you’re covered. I was told by one office that they came off as really unprofessional and unknowledgeable, with no higher ups available to clarify anything.

Now I’m afraid I made a mistake ditching my old plan and am ready to just cancel this one and save the money. Obv, that’s not ideal, but I’d rather save the money and wait until Nov. to sign up for a better one.

I would like to know if anyone has experience with this particular plan. I’m losing trust in the company and don’t want to make any appointments, but maybe someone here has had a good experience with them.

The ironic thing is I need insurance to afford therapy but this fucking insurance run around is causing me so much time and stress because it’s making it so hard to get therapy!!
