Hi everyone,

My mother has Medicare insurance and has SSI. We’ve been going around doctor to doctor for 20+ years. I’ve just finished speaking to her recent DR and he said that the insurance only covers community based hospitals and diagnostics — this is why she has seen the same Doctors and the same tests all these years with no results. This is the first doctor that gave it straight. She needs to go to a university/specialty hospital. Her insurance doesnt cover that — you’d think after countless exams and repeat tests they would send her to the correct doctor to save money. Insurance wouldnt cover the surgery needed.

He said his hands are tied and the insurance most likely will not budge on any requests or referrals (their front desk verified but will try)

My question is, can I pay for BCBS for my mother to get her to the right doctors and have her still keep her insurance/benefits until she gets answers? Will they take her off of medicare and stop her ssi?

Knowing her situation she will reach deductible quickly, and from this doctor she would need a repair surgery. She needs insurance that covers it all. I can’t afford to pay for her forever — I’d be taking a drastic financial and mental hit but I think we can finally get her better.

I don’t even have insurance myself to save money.

My plan is to get her PPO, get all the needed tests and see all the doctors, once deductible is hit – surgery will most likely be covered. then stop the PPO and continue on Medicare moving forward.

Tldr; can my mother keep her medicare/ssi while I pay for BCBS PPO once enrollment is here?
