Medi-cal eligibility question! Will my mother lose coverage?

Hi all! New to this sub! I hope this this the appropriate space for this question.

My mother (62, CA resident), was just recently approved for Social Security (retirement benefits) in the amount of $1,021 monthly. Beforehand, I had spoken to a case worker (not the appointed case worker but rather a phone rep) who stated that her medi-cal would not be affected. I have not yet reported her income to Cal Benefits since she has only received notice that her application was approved.

I wish I had done my due diligence and made various attempts to call her actual case worker but all I did was leave a VM that was never returned. Their phone service is a joke to be honest—no one ever answers and VM’s don’t get returned.

I am aware that her EBT is likely to go down given that she has income now, but really I am most worried about her health and making sure she has coverage for whatever she needs (and she has needed quite a lot).

I would be very appreciative for any insights, anecdotes, personal stories of anyone that has experienced this or knows the ins and out of Medi-Cal. I just want to be prepared if things don’t go as planned.

Thank you in advance!
