Massive bill for overnight sleep study

Hey there,

One of the biggest medical bills I’ve had yet (thankfully) for an overnight sleep study. Basically, I was having trouble sleeping, my primary referred me to a specialist (in network) and the specialist had me take 2 separate take home studies. They were both apparently inconclusive and they had me take an in lab study. After the study the specialists comment was 1 single long “mild sleep apnea, oral fixture recommended”.

I got hit with a bill for $3.3k (down from 6.8k after insurance) for an in network overnight sleep study at a lab. I was under the impression they were billing as a specialist, but after talking to insurance they apparently billed it as a hospital stay.

Specialist visits are covered with just a $70 copay, however hospital visits start coverage after meeting a $2k deductible followed by 40% copay. I feel like more than 3 thousand dollars is outrageous for what was actually done and the response I got after the testing.

Is there any way to talk this down or get some sort of itemized bill to show what they actually charged me for? I don’t qualify for the financial assistance that they offer but are there any ways to talk this down from such a high amount?

Thanks for any input
