Marketplace directs children to Medicaid- becomes an issue with providers

We have had insurance in the past through the marketplace in NC. The past few years we have had insurance through an employer, now we are about to have to go back on marketplace. My experience in the past has been that our income has hovered right above or below the mark where the kids qualify for Medicaid. Some years they do, some years they don’t. When they offer Medicaid for kids, you have to take it. I am not sure why they don’t allow you to deny the Medicaid coverage, at first it seemed great since everything is free with no co-pays or deductibles. But when my kids started needed all sorts of specialist care and therapies I realized that Medicaid was holding us back because so few providers accepted it. So for a long time I was paying cash out of pocket for therapy and counseling. But this time around I don’t want to get into a situation where no one accepts Medicaid and no one will take cash payments since we have Medicaid.

Is there a way to bypass putting kids on state Medicaid if the marketplace application deems that you qualify?
