My husband was unfortunately let go from his job 2 months ago, and we have been on COBRA ever since. He will hopefully be starting a new job with health insurance soon. For the next couple months, however, we are stuck with COBRA.

The premiums and Co-pays are absolutely killing us financially though.

It is costing us $1675 just for coverage just for my husband and myself. The plan has a $10,000 deductible. We are both on a few maintenance medications and have a few minor health issues. So we follow up with doctors monthly. We have also just met our deductible for the year.

Breaking it down, we pay what equals out to almost $2100/month in health related expenses with the premium. Which is mind boggling.

We are in Pennsylvania. And once my husband is employed again, we will most likely be over the minimum income for any type of discount or help on any plans in the health insurance marketplace for the year.

We thankfully have some savings, but they’re being quickly depleted because having health insurance is literally more then our mortgage.

Question is-is there anything we can do to drop down our insurance costs? I just can’t fathom how any one affords this especially while unemployed 😞

Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions!
