Looking for clear answers on how a health plan through marketplace will affect my taxes…

Hello,

I have been looking for clear answers on the Google machine but can’t really find anything that fully answers my questions. Thank you in advance and I apologize if this is redundant or unnecessary.

I live in Texas. I am 38 years old. My zip is 78404. I will make about $29,000 this year as a general contractor, I will have a bonus soon of about $2,000, so let’s call it $31,000. I have looked on Stride Health and am finding plans for $0/month. I will also opt to get dental coverage although I haven’t looked into it fully yet on their site.

My question is, how will using this premium tax credit affect my taxes? When Obamacare first came out I got hosed in the long run because I made more money than I put on the application (I couldn’t know at the time) and ended up having a huge tax bill that I was paying off for years.

I have seen that you can opt to not use the full amount of the tax credit and therefore pay a higher percentage of the premium. Would this be a good option? I can afford about $50-75/month for health and dental.

Thanks again in advance for any help!
