I live in Northern California and have had Kaiser through covered california for years. A month ago things changed and I reported less income to covered california and was told that I was eligible for MCAP which is a program where pregnant women receive medi-cal benefits during their pregnancy and 1 year after giving birth, baby will also be covered for 2 years under this program. Well that was a process but I was finally approved and while I’m still waiting for my medical-cal card I was given the card number and was able to choose a health plan. I was able to choose Kaiser medi-cal because I’ve been with them in the last 6 months and that is a requirement in my county. They told me to wait 7 to 10 days for a Kaiser approval letter with plan start date. But I’ve been reading that this can take up to 30 days and how many people have issues with this. I have my glucose test on November 4 and while I’ve been told the plan could start on November 1st I’m worried it will take longer and I really don’t want to deal with a expensive bill from Kaiser. Has anyone picked Kaiser medi-cal or had any similar experiences? I’m not due until late January but I’ll admit I’m paranoid about these things and I don’t want to have gaps in my insurance especially while pregnant. Any advise would help, thanks!
