Just received $3500 from old insurance provider??

On 6/1/24, I moved from NY to TN. I was with Anthem BCBS. Now with United Healthcare.

I was a little behind on changing insurance info and called on 6/8ish to have my Anthem retroactively canceled for 6/1/24. I went through both Anthem and the NY Marketplace to do so. I thought I was done with Anthem, but I kept receiving notices about overdue bills ($2100 for June through August)

Yesterday, I called them to see if the billing notices were a glitch (was also concerned about them sending collections after me), but the person on the phone wasn't able to find any current outstanding balances related to me or my SSN. On top of that, she told me that my insurance policy related to that specific billing notice was canceled effective 1/1/24???

Today, I woke up to a daily balance email from my bank, and there was an extra $3500 in my account. I saw 5 different deposits from Anthem for ~$700 each (I guess 1 for each premium payment from January through May).

I'm a bit confused about what's going on. Will definitely call them tomorrow when their customer support opens for actual answers, but does anyone else have experience with this?
