Just a rant about how crappy insurance is
I had a baby last month. All my claims got denied for the first few weeks because my employer didn’t enroll my baby in insurance. Finally got that fixed but when the month ended I transitioned to Cobra. When I transitioned to cobra, my member id and plan stayed the same but my group number changed. All the claims that were filed for pre-cobra dates after cobra took effect have been denied stating the policy wasn’t active since they were all filed under the new group number instead of the pre-cobra one. Many of the offices claim they can’t manually override the group number that populates when my member id is entered. I’m still battling this.
Then sometime in the last week they randomly raised my deductible because they changed my plan to the family plan instead of the self/dependents plan. This is incorrect and my employer reached out to insurance who stated they fixed it yet it hasn’t changed. Now all my claims are going to my deductible even though I already met it. So once this gets fixed all those claims will have to be reprocessed so I only pay my coinsurance cost.
To top it off, I contacted the customer service reps who sent me to my employer benefits who sent me to cobra specialist who emailed the insurance company. I tried reaching out to the insurance company directly and they told me a group administrator had to reach out and they can’t speak to members. I informed them the group administrator already reached out and got a response stating the problem was resolved yet the issue really isn’t resolved.
It’s just circle after circle after circle. Everyone is confused or useless or doesn’t have the right authority. Everything is 3-5 business day wait, often without conclusion, before starting the process all over again for yet another problem.
I feel like this is hopeless and all a ruse to get me to give up the fight and pay everything out of pocket.
Who do you turn to when no one else can/is willing to help? I’ve exhausted my resources, spent 30+ hours on the phone trying to straighten it al out, and we never get any close to resolution. There is no one else to reach out to.
