I’ve been going to physical therapy for weeks only to find out that my insurance isn’t covering the appointments at this PT place. Before I started, the PT place said they were in network. Help? (Michigan)

Hi all,

I started PT about 12 weeks ago. My doc referred me to a specific PT place. Before I began treatment there, I called them and asked them to verify that they accept my insurance. I gave them all the relevant insurance info they asked for. They confirmed for me that YES, they DO take my insurance.

As I said, I've been doing PT for 12 weeks or so now since then. Yesterday, I was going through old mail and I found a notice from my insurance company. The notice said that they recognize that my PT is medically necessary BUT the PT place I was referred to is not in network and that if I want to go to PT, it has to be at one of the places in network. They gave a small list. The notice was dated 8/18. It said I have 60 days to appeal.

Of course, I JUST saw it. Now, I'm not sure what to do… Do I have any recourse with the insurance company because the PT place gave me misinformation? Or do I not, because I'm too late on seeing the notice?

Honestly, any thoughts or help here is appreciated. I'm a bit overwhelmed as I thought I had done my diligence in calling and confirming prior to seeking treatment at the PT place.

(PS: Idk if anyone is going to care about why I didn't see a piece of mail from 2 months ago but I have ADHD and unopened mail is usually the least of my worries. =/ )
